Indonesia: Assessing the Sustainability of BEV Demand Growth

New BEV sales in Indonesia surged to 104,000 units in 2025, a 2.4-fold increase year-on-year, driving the BEV share of the new car market up by 7.9 percentage points to 12.9%. This expansion momentum has carried into 2026, with sales for January and February reaching 23,000 units—a 2.9-fold increase compared to the same period last year—pushing the BEV market share up by 9.4 percentage points to 15.2%. While BEVs have now successfully captured more than 10% of the new car market, this analysis examines whether this represents a structural, long-term trend.
