Japan’s Electric Passenger Vehicle Sales in December 2020

In December 2020, electric (HEV / PHEV / BEV / FCEV) passenger vehicle sales increased 19.2% year-on-year to 83,000 units

・HEV sales rose 16.9% compared to the same month of the previous year to 78,000 units. Nissan went up 31.2% to 12,000 units thanks to solid performance of the Note e-POWER 2WD (3rd generation, successor to the 2nd generation e-POWER) launched on December 23, 2020. Suzuki increased 39.3% to 6,114 units driven up by the 3rd generation Solio released on December 4, 2020. ・PHEVs ascended 97% to 2,927 units. Mitsubishi surged 5.2-fold to 1,806 units pushed up by the Eclipse Cross PHEV launched on December 4, 2020. ・The BEV segment’s “Others” category, which includes Tesla, went up 2.8-fold to 706 units. In the FCEV segment, the 2nd generation Toyota MIRAI, released in December 2020, skyrocketed 6.3-fold to 269 units.
