Malaysia’s Automobile Production in 2025

In 2025, Malaysia’s automobile production fell by 5.4% year-on-year to 748,000 units. While domestic sales reached a record high of 821,000 units during the same period, the volume-based increase was limited to 1,979 units. This suggests that production may have been adjusted to reduce inventory. Another contributing factor was the rise in imported BEVs; government tariff exemptions effective through the end of 2025 boosted sales of relatively affordable imported BEVs, leading to a decrease in local production for the domestic market.
