Vietnam’s vehicle sales increased 2.5% year-on-year to 304,149 units in 2021 (based on vehicle sales data of VAMA members). From July to September 2021, automobile sales decreased 30%-50% due to the impact of social isolation measures triggered by the reemergence of the new coronavirus infection. However, demand was strong for the rest of the year, sales returning 300,000-unit level after a year hiatus. Hyundai Motor’s local subsidiary Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam (HTCV) and local automaker VinFast, which are not included in official statistics, sold 70,518 units and 35,723 units respectively in 2021. Combined sales of VAMA members, HTCV and VinFast inched up 0.7% in 2021 to 410,390 units.
