Malaysia’s Automobile Sales in H1 2025

Malaysia’s automobile sales in the first half of 2025 decreased by 4.3% year-on-year to 373,636 units, marking the first decline since the same period of 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. In recent years, the number of first-time car buyers seems to have expanded due to increases in employment and income, and the automobile market has been growing centering on low-priced models such as the city car Perodua Bezza and its hatchback version Axia, but demand is thought to have run its course after peaking in 2024 at 816,747 units, the highest ever.
