Taiwan’s Segmented Sales Results of Automobiles in 2021

Taiwan's automobile market fell 1.7% year-on-year to 449,855 units in 2021. Although sales declined due to the pandemic, it was still the second highest level in the past six years. The SUV segment increased 11.3% to 164,936 units, driven by medium and large models, surpassing the 150,000-unit level for the first time. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles went up 23.6% to 28,400 units, reaching the highest level in the past six years. In contrast, passenger car sales dropped 16.5% to 93,825 units, falling to the lowest level in the past six years. MPVs declined 26.5% to 24,218 units, gradually falling in the past six years from 52,397 units in 2016.
