China’s Beijing WeLion New Energy Technology develops and produces solid-state and liquid electrolyte lithium-ion batteries and all-solid-state batteries. In anticipation of future demand for semi-solid and solid-state batteries with high energy density, WeLion is increasing production capacity and strengthening its procurement system and product development.

In August 2020, WeLion completed the construction of a semi-solid-state battery production line with an annual production capacity of 0.2 GWh in Liyang city, Jiangsu province.

The plant produces semi-solid-state batteries with an energy density of 270 Wh/kg. The Liyang Plant supplies batteries to drones and electric vehicles among other products. In addition, a semi-solid drive battery production line in Beijing’s Fangshan district is scheduled to start operation at the end of 2022. The Fangshan Plant will supply batteries to Chinese BEV manufacturer NIO starting from the end of 2022. A third battery plant is currently under construction in Huzhou city, Zhejiang province. It is scheduled to start pilot production of semi-solid-state batteries around May 2022.
