Nissan Motor in China: e-Power, Other Core Technologies Entering the Market

Nissan Motor operates in China through three joint ventures Dongfeng Nissan, Zhengzhou Nissan and Dongfeng Infiniti. Factory shipment of Nissan brand passenger vehicles in 2020 decreased 3.5% from the previous year to 1.13 million units. Sales are not gaining momentum as competitors Toyota and Honda hit record highs.

Nissan announced plans to promote Zero Emission, e-POWER and VC Turbo technologies in China at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2021. Among them, e-POWER, will be installed in the Sylphy compact car in 2021 and will be introduced to six other models by 2025. Zero Emission and VC turbo technologies have already been launched in the Chinese market. Prior to the introduction of e-POWER technology in China, Nissan and Chinese automobile battery manufacturer Sunwoda Electronic agreed in June 2020 to conduct a study on possible joint development of batteries for e-POWER vehicles. Cost is planned to be reduced through parts localization.
