Malaysia's 2021 vehicle production fell 0.7% year-on-year to 481,651 units. Due to the spread of the Delta strain infection, a nationwide lockdown was implemented in June and July, forcing automakers to idle production lines for about two months. In addition, local post- process factories of semiconductors suspended production during the same period which delayed the subsequent recovery of automobile production due to insufficient parts supply. As a result, full-year production decreased 15.7% compared to 2019. Passenger vehicles dropped 2.5% to 446,431 units, while commercial vehicles increased 28.4% to 35,220 units.
