Commercial Vehicle Engine After-treatment Systems: Companies to Comply with New Emission Regulations

The Chinese government announced two air pollution countermeasures in June and December 2018. In July 2019, China 6 emission regulations, planned to be launched after 2020, were urgently introduced ahead of schedule in the surrounding areas of Beijing and Shanghai. In particular, diesel engine trucks with high emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) are subject to these regulations. At Engine China 2019, held by China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association in August 2019, Weichai Power, Yuchai Machinery, FAW Jiefang and other major Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturers exhibited their latest engines. China 6-applicable technologies featured by most of these engines are exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective reduction catalyst (SCR). On the other hand, Cummins’ F4.5 (Stage VI) engine is not fitted with EGR but only with the other three technologies.
