Nissan Motor’s 2022 Sales Results of Automobiles in Japan

Nissan Motor’s automobile sales in Japan decreased by 0.5% year-on-year to 449,458 units in 2022. Although sales went down for the fourth consecutive year, the rate of decline improved compared to the previous years. The improvement is attributed to Nissan’s successful double sourcing strategy for semiconductors, which combines substitutes and standard chips, as well as the market launch of several new models.

It is clear from the automaker’s monthly sales results that Nissan have begun resolving the difficulties in procuring semiconductors. In the first five months of 2022, sales were below those of the previous year. However, in the next seven months only in October Nissan posted negative growth while in the other six months sales surpassed those of the previous year.
