Asia’s EV Battery Charging Infrastructure Development

This report gives a brief summary on the development status of the BEV battery charging infrastructure in Asian countries with a large automobile market (India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam), and on related government policies (China and Japan are not covered by this report). In the mid-2010s, the insufficient BEV battery charging infrastructure became a global issue. Furthermore, many countries, out of the eight countries covered by this report, need to prioritize the development of their social infrastructure other than their charging infrastructure. Many of these countries have just begun to develop their charging infrastructure. South Korea is significantly ahead of the others with 107,000 battery charging units. The Korean government has imposed mandatory installment of BEV battery charging equipment in all apartments and public buildings. A total of 20 million chargers are planned to be set up in coming years.
