Taiwan’s vehicle sales decreased 1.7% year-on-year to 449,855 units in 2021. Although sales fell below the previous year's level for the first time in three years due to the resurgence of the new coronavirus infection in May and June, demand settled at the second highest level since 2006, following a record high level in 2020. The sales of domestic-made vehicles increased 2.6% to 242,037 units while imported vehicle sales dropped 6.2% to 207,818 units. Passenger vehicle sales fell 18.7% to 125,819 units, but recreational vehicles (including SUVs) went up 6.4% to 260,406 units and commercial vehicles rose 9.8% to 63,630 units.
