Overview of Oman’s Automobile Market in 2022

Oman's automobile sales in 2022 decreased by 10.3% from the previous year to 64,760 units. Compared to the peak level of around 200,000 units achieved in 2008 and 2012-2015, 2022’s result is only about one-third.

Market-leader Toyota saw a 9.7% decline in sales to 30,452 units, but its market share increased by 0.3 point to 47.0%. The Toyota Land Cruiser led the sales with 11,000 units, down 4.5%, and Toyota Hilux came in second with 8,251 units, down 23.0%. Second-placed Nissan sold 7,371 units, down 41.8% from the previous year, and its market share fell from 17.5% to 11.4%. Nissan’s core model the Sunny dropped 46.6% year-on-year to 5,826 units. On the other hand, SAIC Motor’s MG rose by 43.5% to 5,157 units, moving to third place by overtaking Hyundai which fell 3.0% to 3,538 units. Increased sales of the MG 5, up 28.8% to 1,609 units, contributed to MG’s good performance.
