BYD to Launch First European Passenger Car Plant in Hungary

BYD achieved historic sales momentum in Europe by early 2026, recording a nearly threefold year-on-year increase in monthly registrations across Europe. This rapid expansion allowed the automaker to lead the Chinese cohort with roughly 7% of Europe’s total electric vehicle market share, generating highly lucrative net profits of up to 3,500 USD per vehicle. This volume is supported by exponential historical growth, with total European sales skyrocketing from 4,248 units in 2022 to 253,299 units in 2025. To sustain this commercial trajectory, BYD is on track to double its regional footprint to 2,000 sales and service outlets across Europe, while simultaneously diversifying its lineup from six to 13 active models to include a heavy strategic pivot toward plug-in hybrid technology and premium sub-brands.
