Japan’s Electric Passenger Vehicle Sales in August 2020

HEV sales dropped 20.1% compared to the same period of 2019 to 63,000 units. Toyota fell 18.1% to 35,000 units. Although the new-car effect of Toyota’s Yaris and Harrier models benefitted sales, but they could not make up for the decrease of the Prius (down 48.8%) and Aqua (down 49.1%). Honda dropped 14.4% to 11,000 units and Nissan decreased 28.7% to 10,000 units.

Looking at foreign brands, Audi’s S8 and Q7, and Ferrari’s first mass-manufactured PHEV the SF90 entered the Japanese market in August. Both Audi models are equipped with a 48V mild hybrid system as standard equipment. The S8 sold 6 units, the Q7 46 units and the SF90 1 unit.
