India’s Automobile Sales in H1 2025

India’s automobile sales in the first half of 2025 (wholesale sales data announced by the Indian automobile industry association SIAM) were 2,670,857 units, an increase of 0.6% from the same period last year. Although sales hit a record high for the fourth consecutive time in the first half of the year since 2022, the growth rate slowed to less than 1%. Compact SUVs, which had been driving the double-digit growth of the market in recent years, slowed down, and the low-price mini and lower compact passenger car markets, which tend to sell well, continued to shrink. In both segments, there was a noticeable decline after April 2025, following the Trump administration's decision to raise tariffs.
