India’s Motorcycle Sales Results in the First Half of 2024

Sales of gasoline-powered motorcycles in India reached a record high of 21.64 million units in 2018. However, sales fell to 14.27 million units in 2020 due to financial tightening, the outbreak of COVID-19, and rising vehicle prices due to compliance with exhaust gas regulations. Demand began to recover in 2023, with sales increasing by 1.26 million units (up 8.2%) from the previous year to 16.64 million units. Sales rose in the first six months of 2024 to 9.23 million units, an increase of 1.68 million units (up 22.3%) from the same period last year, full-year demand possibly rising to 18.7 million units.
