Askoll EVA: Seeing Sluggish Sales in the Face of Fierce Competition in Italy
Italy's Askoll EVA, founded in 2014, is Europe's second largest BEV motorcycle manufacturer, following Spain's Scutum Logistic, which sells Silence brand BEV scooters. Askoll EVA is part of the electric mobility business of Italy's Askoll Group, whose main areas of expertise are electric pumps and motors for home appliances. The eS series was launched in 2015, focusing on sales mainly to delivery companies such as postal, pizza chains and home delivery operators in Italy and other European countries. The EVOlution series was introduced in 2019 followed by the NGS series in 2020, expanding retail sales of products for personal use. As a result, the ratio of retail sales to all sales increased from 38.3% in 2019 to 59.6% in 2020. In addition to electric scooters, Askoll entered the electric bicycle segment, which is seeing a surge in demand in Europe, in 2019, and also entered the micro-mobility electric scooter segment in 2021. Sales of BEV scooters in Europe expanded to just under 6,000 units in 2019 but fell under 4,000 units in 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19. In 2021, product sales for private use are expected to remain below 4,000 units due to growing market presence of price-competitive Chinese BEV motorcycle makers NIU and Vmoto (Super SOCO).
