Vietnam’s 2025 Automobile Sales by Segment

The Vietnamese automotive market in 2025 (VAMA member manufacturers + Hyundai’s local entity HTCV + local BEV manufacturer VinFast) grew by 20.3% year-on-year to 542,000 units, hitting a record high. This growth was driven by an increasing lineup of affordable BEVs from VinFast. Small SUVs targeting the upper-middle class grew rapidly by 48.8% year-on-year to 197,000 units. Additionally, midsize / large SUVs for wealthy buyers grew by 22.7% to 95,000 units, and midsize / large MPVs, which see demand from ride-hailing services, expanded 2.2-fold to 46,000 units. Conversely, the B segment declined for the third consecutive year, dropping 15.7% to 39,000 units due to a distinct shift in demand toward small SUVs. In terms of market composition, the shift toward SUVs accelerated, with SUVs increasing their share by 7.3 percentage points to 53.9%.
