Automobile sales in Asia increased 13.8% year-on-year to 9,003,974 units in 2021 (13 countries in South Asia, ASEAN and East Asia, excluding China and Japan). Compared to 2020, when the market shrank significantly due to the corona outbreak, sales in 2021 increased double digits. However, sales were somewhat below the pre-corona level of around 10 million units. In 2021, restrictions on social activities due to the reemergence of the new coronavirus infection and insufficient supply of semiconductors and other parts hampered market recovery.
