Overview of Bahrain’s Automobile Market in 2022

Bahrain’s vehicle sales in 2022 dropped to 24,082 units, down 2.5% from the previous year. This is the third lowest level since the 2000s.

Looking at sales by brand, Toyota ranked first, with a 14.7% decrease from the previous year to 7,744 units, and its market share dropped by 4.5 points to 32.2%. Nissan in second place had sales of 2,700 units, down 5.6% year on year, and its share fell by 0.4 points to 11.2%.

Sales of Chinese brands were on thew rise. SAIC Motor’s MG brand increased by 44.7% year on year to 1,143 units, moving from 8th place in the previous year to 5th. Changan increased by 47.5% to 910 units, rising from 11th place last year to 7th place. By model, the Nissan Sunny increased sales by 27.3% to 1,709 units, capturing first place. Meanwhile, the Toyota Land Cruiser fell from the top spot for the first time in nine years.

Bahrain’s Marson Group and US-registered Gauss Auto announced in February 2023 that they will jointly produce BEVs at Salman Industrial City in the American Trade Zone. The two partners will develop technology and an industrial town project which will focus on new energy intelligent vehicles.
