Thailand’s Automobile Export Results in 2022

Automobile exports from Thailand (CBUs only) went up by 4.3% year-on-year to 1,000,256 units in 2022, showing a gradual recovery toward the pre-corona level. An increase in exports to the Middle East and Africa and a recovery in demand for one-ton pickup trucks and PPVs contributed to the sales exceeding 1 million units. On the other hand, the decrease in production of passenger cars due to the shortage of semiconductors and the fall in exports to the European market have partially hindered the recovery. In 2023, the shortage of semiconductors is expected to ease and the demand for pickup trucks is forecast to continue increasing. As a result, total exports are projected to reach 2019’s level of 1.05 million units.
