Global PHEV Trends: Current Situation and Future Plans Until 2022

FOURIN has compiled a list of PHEV models currently on the global market and future launch plans until 2022. Having in mind China’s NEV regulations and carbon dioxide emission restrictions in Europe, all automakers are expanding their PHEV lineup; however, there are major differences in their progress. In Europe, which applies favorable fuel efficiency conversion formula to PHEV models that can deliver zero emission performance, Germany’s VW, Daimler and BMW have launched one-motor PHEV models ahead of Japanese and US automakers starting from 2014. These three manufacturers are expected to complete PHEV versions of their core models by around 2019–2020. Apart from PHEVs, these automakers’ peculiar feature is the addition of 48V MHEV models to their lineup.
