China’s EDR Market Is Expected to Expand Following the Introduction of New Regulation
As automobiles become more widespread in China, investigating the causes of traffic accidents has become more complicated. For this reason, EDRs (event data recorders), which contribute to the investigation of the responsibility and cause of traffic accidents, have been attracting attention in China. Starting from January 1, 2022, it has become mandatory to install EDR in new vehicles. For now, the data to be recorded is limited to 17 items such as vehicle speed and door lock status; however, it will be raised to 60 items starting from January 2024.
Regarding the market size of EDRs, new passenger vehicle sales in 2022 are expected to maintain the level of more than 20 million units, so the EDR market is expected to generate more than 10 billion CNY in 2022.
