Malaysia’s 2025 Automobile Sales by Segment

In 2025, the Malaysian automotive market grew 0.2% year-on-year to reach a record high of 821,000 units. This growth was driven by the mid-to-large SUV segment (up 30.8% year-on-year to 84,000 units), fueled by expanding sales across all Chinese models that have been steadily entering the market since the previous year. Conversely, signs of a demand plateau are emerging, as the highest-volume lower-compact segment (A / B) remained flat year-on-year at 247,000 units, and the second highest-volume compact SUV segment contracted for the second consecutive year, dropping 2.9% to 116,000 units. Covering the top nine selling brands (Perodua, Proton, Toyota, Honda, Chery, BYD, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, and Mazda), this report categorizes models into segments by price and vehicle class to analyze demand trends across each segment.
