Vietnam’s Segmented Sales Results of Automobiles in 2021

Vietnam’s vehicle sales decreased 2.9% year-on-year to 383,444 units in 2021 (based on combined vehicle sales data of VAMA members and two non-members Hyundai Motor’s local subsidiary Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam (HTCV) and local automaker VinFast. Passenger car sales decreased 14.6% from the previous year to 145,103 units. The market share of passenger cars fell 5.2 pp to 37.8%. SUVs increased 7.4% year-on-year to 118,076 units, and their share of the total market rose to 30.8%. In 2021, the SUV segment performed well thanks to the launch of five new models and excellent sales results of the Kia Seltos and the Toyota Corolla Cross, SUV accounting for 30.8% of the vehicle market.
