India’s Airbag Industry: Major Players Restructure Operations to Meet Rising Demand

In India, the installation of airbags is expanding due to the tightening of safety regulations. For this reason, major airbag manufacturers are strengthening their production systems. In the Indian vehicle market, price competitiveness has traditionally been given top priority, so the installation of airbags has been limited. However, following the compulsory installation of driver airbags for passenger vehicles from July 2019 and the mandatory collision safety test for small cars from October of the same year, the installation of airbags has expanded. It is likely that system manufacturers will start invest in capacity enhancement and the localization of cushions, inflators and other components will progress in the medium term.
