Thailand: Automobile Exports Decreased 30.2% to 740,000 Units in 2020

Thailand’s automobile exports (CBU form) in 2020 fell 30.2% from the previous year to 736,000 units. The impact of the global spread of the new coronavirus resulted in a reduction in exports to all destinations, total exports declining some 30%. Exports dropped to the lowest level in nine years since 2011, when production declined due to the flood damage in Thailand and the difficulty in procuring parts following the Great East Japan Earthquake.

By vehicle type, passenger cars were down 28.9% to 261,000 units and pickup trucks dropped 29.5% to 418,000 units, both segments declining nearly 30%. Passenger pickup vehicles dropped to 56,000 units, down 40.0%.
