Dongfeng Motor’s Commercial Vehicle Business Focuses on Autonomous Driving, 5G

Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFM) increased the factory shipment volume of commercial vehicles 7.8% year-on-year in 2019 to 625,000 units driven by the increase in shipments of tractor trucks and light trucks. In the first four months of 2020, factory shipment dropped 13.7% to 187,000 units due to the impact of the new coronavirus. However, looking at the number of vehicles sold by DFM in May 2020, the sales of its commercial vehicle manufacturing subsidiaries started to recover thanks to the expansion of infrastructure investment in China. In particular, Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, which specializes in medium and heavy trucks, posted a record high in sales, and is expected to perform well in the second half of 2020 as well.
