Taiwan’s Automobile Sales in H1 2026
Taiwan’s new vehicle sales in the first half of 2026 reached 202,000 units, a modest 1.7% increase year-on-year (YoY). Although the growth was slight, the market showed a clear recovery trend, with monthly volumes outpacing the previous year in four out of the six months, capped off by a strong 20.5% surge in June alone. Consumer sentiment was bolstered by improving household income driven by the AI and semiconductor boom, alongside the wealth effect from a robust stock market. This positive sentiment coincided with the rollouts of highly competitive new models. Additionally, some consumers who had been taking a wait-and-see approach ahead of expected tariff exemptions on US-made passenger cars reportedly gave up waiting and moved forward with their purchases.
