The Philippines’ Automobile Sales by Segment: B Segment Declined 40%, SUVs Dropped 50%

Automobile sales in the Philippines decreased 40.4% from the previous year to 248,000 units in 2020. The top eight brands sold in 2020 accounted for 92.1% of the entire market with 229,000 units. In 2020, while all segments decreased, the decline of small passenger cars and commercial vehicles such as one-ton pickups was relatively low, but the drop of large passenger cars, SUVs and MPVs was particularly high.

Passenger vehicles declined 37.0% to 74,000 units. Other than the A segment, which fell 26.6%, all other segments recorded a decline of more than 30%. The B segment, the Philippines' best-selling segment, fell 38.6% to 57,000 units. The Toyota Vios, which was partially improved in July 2020, decreased 23.8% to 25,000 units. Mitsubishi Motors' Mirage / Mirage G4 decreased 53.3% to 9,193 units but remained in second place. The Honda Brio, which was fully upgraded in April 2019, increased sales to 3,260 units, up 12.6%.
