Malaysia’s Ownership Volume of Motor Vehicles

By the end of 2022, ownership scale of automobiles in Malaysia surpassed 18 million units of which passenger vehicles rose to 16.6 million units, trucks to 1.4 million units and buses to 63,000 units. Overall, automobile ownership increased by over 800,000 units from the end of the previous year thanks to new vehicle sales reaching a record high of 720,000 units. Meanwhile motorcycle ownership expanded to 15.7 million units.

The vehicle ownership rate was 551 units / 1,000 people for automobiles and 482 units / 1,000 people for motorcycles, which were high compared to other Asian countries.
