In the first half of 2026, South Korea’s automotive production stood at 2.11 million units, remaining flat year-on-year. However, a breakdown of the data reveals that electrified vehicle (xEV) production surged 24.2% year-on-year to 869,000 units, accounting for 41.2% of total output and surpassing the 40% threshold for the first time. With internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) production stagnating, xEVs effectively anchored overall volumes, signaling a major structural turning point in South Korea's automotive manufacturing landscape.
