Indonesia’s Automobile Sales in H1 2025
Indonesia’s automobile sales (wholesale sales data) in the first half of 2025 decreased by 8.6% from the same period last year to 374,740 units. If the current pace continues, sales could fall below 800,000 units for the entire year for the first time since 2020. The decline in overall automobile sales was caused by poor demand for Low Cost Green Cars (LCGC), a vehicle category which is exempt from luxury sales tax, which fell by 28.5% to 64,063 units. On the other hand, sales of non-sedans, a vehicle category that consists of mainly MPVs, decreased only slightly by 2.7% to 214,649 units, and sales of SUVs skyrocketed by 97.6% to 11,788 units. The sharp increase in SUV sales was driven by Toyota Kijang Innova, thanks to the popularity of HEVs, successive launches of Chinese BEVs and tax breaks for electric vehicles.
