According to India’s vehicle registration database VAHAN managed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India, new motorcycle registrations in the first six months of 2025 reached 9,234,398 units (new registration data is used to substitute for sales data), an increase of around 209,000 units (up 2.3%) from the same period last year, steady demand continuing since 2024. Sales of gasoline motorcycles inched up 1.2% to 8,602,925 units, an increase of about 106,000 units, but demand for electric motorcycles remained strong, sales rising by around 78,000 units (up 14.8%) to 606,383 units. The only CNG-powered motorcycle available on the market is the Bajaj Freedom, which was launched in July 2024. New registrations of the Freedom reached 24,201 units in the first half of 2025. Regarding flex fuel motorcycles, Honda launched the CB300F Flex Fuel in October 2024, but the number of new registrations has been sluggish at 889 units due to the lack of blended fuel stations.
