Nissan Motor’s Sales Results in China in YTD August 2023

Nissan Motor’s passenger vehicle sales in China from January to August 2023 decreased by 24.6% year-on-year to 398,000 units, and its market share declined by 1.1 percentage points to 3.0%. Poor sales results are attributed to sluggish performance of the Sylphy, which accounts for more than half of Nissan’s sales in China and the lack of progress in introducing electrified vehicles, including HEVs equipped with e-POWER. The ratio of electrified vehicles accounting for just under 4.0% of Nissan's sales in China.

Nissan is stepping up the competitiveness of BEVs. In February 2023, the company lowered the price of the Ariya in response to the BEV price cut war in China, and added a low-priced version of the Ariya with a price tag of less than 200,000 CNY in July 2023. Currently, the Ariya is the only BEV that Nissan markets in China, but it plans to launch a highly price competitive SUV-type BEV exclusively for China in 2024.
