Indonesia’s vehicle sales increased 66.8% year-on-year to 887,202 units in 2021 (based on wholesale data). Although sales did not reach the pre-corona level of over 1 million units, it significantly increased from the previous year when demand dropped to a historic low due to the pandemic. In addition to recovery in demand, sales were aided by the reduction of luxury tax on automobiles starting from March 2021. Passenger vehicle sales went up 69.7% to 659,806 units and commercial vehicle sales increased 58.9% to 227,396 units.
