Honda Motor’s Global Production Capacity of Automobiles

Honda Motor’s global automobile production capacity peaked at 5.7 million units / year in 2019, but shrank to 5.48 million units in 2021 and to 5.14 million units as of June 2022. The decline in production capacity is due to several plant closures around the world. Honda discontinued production in the Philippines in March 2020, in Argentina around May 2020, in the UK in July 2021, in Turkey in September 2021 and at the Sayama Automobile Plant in Japan at the end of December 2021. In contrast, in anticipation of rising demand in China, Honda is building two new BEV-only factories in the country which are scheduled to start operations in 2024.
