UD Trucks’s 2019 Sales Decline Over 30% in ASEAN

In 2019, UD Trucks’s sales in ASEAN (five countries) declined 30.6% compared to the previous year to 2,815 units. While sales in Singapore sharply increased, the automaker saw an over 30% drop in its largest market in the region Indonesia.

Sales in Indonesia fell 32.6% to 2,271 units. In Indonesia, sales dropped for the first time after three years of steady increase. UD Trucks released the Kuzer light truck in Indonesia by spring 2020. The model has been designed to be easy to use even on narrow roads and in places with poor access. Its turning radius is up to 20% smaller compared to products of the same class. UD Trucks plans to sell about 350 units of the Kuzer in Indonesia in 2020. The automaker is also engaging in the expansion of its local sales network. It set up two new 3S shops in 2019. Looking at UD Trucks’s second largest market in the region Malaysia, sales declined 34% in 2019 to 446 units. The automaker launched the facelifted Quester heavy truck in June 2019 followed by the Kuzer in November of the same year. However, as Malaysia’s overall truck market contracted, UD Trucks’s sales could not grow in 2019.

The automaker has set its sales target at 2,200 units in Indonesia for 2020. However, this target figure may be revised due to the impact of the new coronavirus.
