India’s Automobile Export Results in 2022

Automobile exports from India (CBUs only) increased by 17.8% year-on-year to 733,183 units in 2022, recovering for the second consecutive year. The receding impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the normalization of domestic production activities led to a recovery in exports. As a result, Maruti Suzuki, Kia, Renault and Honda among other manufacturers set record high export results.

Passenger vehicle exports increased 20.0% to 644,875 units, of which passenger cars (sedans and hatchbacks) went up 18.7% to 415,547 units and utility vehicles (SUVs and MPVs) rose 23.8% to 228,801 units. Meanwhile, commercial vehicle exports ascended 3.9% to 88,308 units, of which LCVs increased 12.1% to 61,454 units but M&HCVs fell 11.0% to 26,854 units.
