India’s Passenger Vehicle Sales by Fuel Type: Diesel Ratio Dropped to 17% in 2020

The proportion of diesel vehicles in the Indian passenger vehicle market fell below 20% in 2020. According to data released by Haymarket SAC Publishing (India), which publishes automobile magazines in India, the ratio of diesel vehicles decreased 15.3pp from the previous year to 17.3% in 2020. Diesel vehicle ratio peaked at 54% in 2012 but has been continuing to decline. The introduction of BS6 emission regulations (equivalent to Euro 6) in April 2020 sped up the rate of decline.
