Honda Motor announced its electrification strategy for China in October 2021. Five models of the e:N series, including three concepts, which will be the first BEVs bearing the Honda brand in China, were unveiled for the first time. Two of these models will be released in the spring of 2022, and the remaining three concept models are planned to be launched within the next five years. In addition, Honda also announced that it will stop the introduction of new gasoline vehicles to the Chinese market from 2030. The announcement indicated that Honda will step up its electrification strategy in China ahead of the global market including North America where the sales of gasoline vehicles is scheduled to end in 2040.

Global Electrification Objectives / BEV Launch Plans

Global BEV and FCEV sales targets

・Honda’s goal is to raise the global BEV and FCEV sales ratio, including China, to 40% in 2030, 80% in 2035, and 100% in 2040.

Global BEV launch plan

・In China, Honda plans to launch the first BEV model under the Honda brand in early 2022. ・In North America, Honda plans to launch the Prologue as its first BEV model that uses GM’s Ultium battery and motor technology in 2024. It is built on GM’s platform. In the latter half of the 2020s, Honda plans to launch a BEV that uses Honda's self-developed BEV platform e:Architecture. ・In Japan, Honda plans to launch a mini BEV in 2024.

・Honda’s plan is to advance electrification in China ahead of other markets. - In China, it plans to launch the first BEV under the Honda brand in early 2022. - Honda believes that BEVs that are accepted in China, which is the cutting-edge market for BEVs, will be accepted globally. ・In China, Honda aims to accelerate efforts for comprehensive electrification from BEV production to sales and battery supply. - Dongfeng Honda and GAC Honda will start operations of BEV-dedicated plants in 2024, and will strengthen their strategic alliance with CATL in battery procurement.

BEV launch plans in China

・Honda plans to release 10 BEV models under the Honda brand in China in the next five years starting from 2021. ・From 2030, Honda will stop the introduction of new gasoline engine vehicles into the Chinese market. - All new models sold in China from 2030 will be electric models, such as BEVs and HEVs. - Globally, Honda will stop the introduction of new gasoline engine vehicles from 2040.
