Toyota Motor: Production Volume of Automobiles in Japan (Actual: 2016-2020, Forecast: 2021, Actual: YTD Aug. 2020 / 2021) | Toyota Motor: Production Volume of Automobiles in Japan (Actual: Jan. 2019-Aug. 2021, Forecast: Sep.-Dec. 2021)

Toyota Motor intermittently suspended the operation of domestic vehicle plants from late August 2021 due to insufficient parts supply caused by the spread of the new coronavirus infection in ASEAN. Twenty-seven of out the 28 production lines at 14 plants in Japan temporarily stopped operation. Although virus prevention measures were being implemented by suppliers in ASEAN, the operating rate of many supplier factories declined due to long-term lockdown, resulting in a shortage of parts. Another reason for production cuts is limited semiconductor supply. Although Toyota Motor minimized the impact of the global semiconductor shortage in the first half of 2021, the prolonged shortage has made it impossible to avoid large-scale production cuts.
